Library Nets Project

A Custom Solution for the University of Oxford’s Library

Nets4You was approached to develop a bespoke solution to a problem faced by one of the University of Oxford’s libraries. The open railing on the first floor provided an ideal opportunity for small items to potentially fall down to the floor area below.

The request was for a minimalist and effective solution to provide a safety measure that would stop objects from rolling off the first floor onto the open area below the railing. It was essential that the solution blended in and did not detract from the architectural features of the library.

Providing Safety Without Compromising on Aesthetics

We designed and created a custom frame for an elasticated net to fit the long-span panel spaces under the railing.

This was a challenging ask given the span of the area to be covered, but we worked closely with the University to develop a solution that the team was happy with. The finished product achieved the dual aim of providing a safety barrier while being unobtrusive.

These photos from the University show the nets in use.
